UPS questions

I just got done upgrading UPS's and i noticed that the manual said not to plug a surge protector into the ups, but they gave no explaination. Can anyone explain as to why they said that? Also along those lines what would happen if a ups was plugged into a ups?

Don't quote me on this, but it's probably because of this: Let's say they advertise your system will be battery powered for 10 minutes on the UPS with a certain monitor etc. If you plug a surge in with all your computer stuff etc. and your system goes down in 1 minute, you'll call tech support and say "my battery isn't working right." It's probably just to avoid stuff like that I would think. It won't hurt anything to plug a surge into it, but don't expect the battery to last as long as advertised.

I put a surge protector between the wall and the UPS on the belt and suspenders theory but not between UPS and equipment. And oh, yeah, some surge protectors can fail in short rather than open mode. Real bad for the UPS and noise filters could possibly sap some energy from the modified square waves that most UPSes put out.

The UPS is a surge protector also. There is no need to have it on a surge protector. It is also a Line conditioner incase the power from the wall goes up or down (which is bad for a computer). The reason for not putting a surge protector on the UPS is because the computer runs directly off the battery which in turn gets its power from the wall. You can't have too many things on the battery. I have the APC 350. It has 3 outlets for battery backup and 3 for just surge suppression.
