UPS problems with electrical generators

Looking into my suspicions:
q"There are many people in the generator and UPS industries that have tried to operate engine driven alternating current (A.C.) generator sets (gen-sets) and uninterruptible power systems (UPS) together. Although some systems are successful, there are problems that can occur."/q

So i'm wondering about UPS compatibility issues.

I'm looking for a few people willing to test their generators with their UPS
to see if any problems arise.

for the ones testing:
> please state your generator and UPS brand + model.
> did your UPS ever switch off from battery mode (and to the gen) once plugged into the generator?
> did your lightbulb and/or computer work normally on the generator powered UPS?

thank you!

If I had a stand-by generator, I would do the experiment/testing and give you the results.

Email the different UPS providers tech support with this issue.
Register and post about this over at http://www.badcaps.net/ in the General Electronics Forum.
There are several guys that will be of real help.

Line conditioning ups with ferroresonant transformers are recommended for gen-set use.

Your typical computer UPS is only designed to run on utility grade power.

I have only used commercial grade stuff. Never had any problems though. (Cat deisel about the size of a motor home out back, Powerware 30 KVA in the phone room)

I tend to agree with MS Dawn. Powerware is a merger of several UPS companies including Best Power who made the Ferrups model of UPSes. They still make the Ferrups under the Powerware name and something like that is what you want to use with generator backed systems.
