I live in an old appt building and have a sneeking suspition that the power is of pretty poor quality. When I use my brother laser printer my desk light dims, when I run the air conditioner a fuse will blow if I use the microwave etc... so I assume this is causing PC problems. I have had some PSU/MBs just go dead after about a year. I only have used powerstrips but since this power situation seems to be costing me money, I believe I should invest in either a line conditioners or UPSs but I know very little about power quality etc.
Heres the deal, I currently have 1 SFF PC, 17" flat panel monitor and b&w laser printer but I will be adding headless HTPC and file server (5-8 hdd). I do not need battery backup time per se as I do not care about proper shutdown/software problems due to power outages. What I do want is to ensure that my hard earned (and spent) cash is not ruined by my power lines form surges etc. after only a yeat.
What is advisable UPS/line conditioner for 3-4 PCs and some periphs. What should I look for to ensure I am getting only what I need? Do you have a specific product suggestions?
Thanks.
