UPS is the new Pony Express

In 1860, the Pony Express took about ten days to carry mail from the Atlantic to the Pacific coasts. By using a network of way stations approximately ten miles apart, horses could be run at a full gallop, all the way across the country. The average speed for the whole journey was about 10MPH.

In 2006, UPS takes about the same amount of time or more to deliver packages within the United States.

Discuss.

Got no problem w/ UPS here. We buy stuff from vendors daily, using UPS red or blue for delivery, it's all good. We're getting the same experience as FedEx with UPS here.

It's true, the more things change, the more they stay the same.

Haven't had trouble with UPS before.
They've never taken 10 days for me before...
USPS on the other hand, is a whole nother story.
But then again, people here just likes to knock on UPS for fun.

The reason I created this thread is that my package has been enroute from Cali to Portland for the past 3 solid days. I'm not complaining...after all, if I wanted it sooner, I'd have paid for overnight...but seriously, what are they doing to make it so slow? It's not like it's been sitting at a transfer point...it's been ENROUTE! Maybe they ran out of gas and are walking the rest of the way?

They probably are holding it. I've had plenty of ground packages that can be at their destination but they will be held for a few days because they are scheduled for delivery on a certain day with both big carriers. Why get 2-day service when you paid for 7-day service?

Because it costs them less (smaller warehouses), and is likely to give you a positive impression of the company?

If you're mailing a letter within your city, the Post Office doesn't hold it for 3 days and tell you that you should have sprung for overnight.

actually, just for fun, I mailed a letter to my neighbor. It got sent 75 miles and took 3 days to get to his mailbox. It was pretty dumb

dont u think if it would be that easy they would do it? maybe the extra recieved on the shipping costs is enough to offset that enough and yield a profit?

I don't understand it, myself, but I've had FedEx packages arrive well before they were supposed to, back when Newegg used them. I think it's just a different philosophy at the two companies; one more concerned with numbers and the other more concerned with image.

try converting whatever it cost back in the 1800s converted to today's currency. I think you'll find you can get a lot faster service for that kind of money. so only a moron would try to compare the two implying lack of progress in 150 years.
