UPS has lots of $uck...freakin expensive now.

Since when did these guys get so d@mn expensive?

I shipped a laptop without comparing with fedex, and insured for $800 with "signature required", it costed $28.50 compared to $21.70 for fedex! Holy cr@p these guys have become gougers.

Ship Fedex then? It's always worthwhile to check Fedex, UPS and USPS for whatever package. USPS can be quite cheap for lighter items, though their insurance claims process is a pain (from what i hear, haven't had to deal with it personally). And I don't know if there is a pattern on when Fedex is cheaper than UPS.

Moral of the story, check online!

Also, never ship from dedicated UPS/Fedex shipping stores. They will almost always gouge you in random fees. So it will say it costs $20 to ship online, and magically it will say $28 at the store. I always ship from Office Depot/Staples/Office Max because they just charge for shipping and no silly fees (at least in my experience the cost is always really close to the estimation online). Plus they often have coupons for $3 off or whatever.

Also flat rate boxes and envelopes are awesome. You could probably fit a laptop in their large flat rate box, only $15 to ship that anywhere in the US (though that's without insurance).

I just bend over in preparation everytime I go to ship a package, so it's not as painful.

Occasionally I've checked Fedex Ups, and Usps for comparative quotes, and iirc Fedex and Ups were always fairly close for large packages, but for some reason I trusted Ups more.

Now Ups charges ~$4 for signature (required/free for fedex >$500) and ~$4 for residential delivery. Their insurance is more expensive as well. Overall they've gotten pretty stingy lately.

Btw, Usps is canning overnight delivery...not sure if that's in a thread somewhere.

Gas at $3.00+ and Diesel at $4 will do that to shipping and much, much more (see your food prices). Just wait until the postal service competition dwindles or goes away completely and then see what they charge to send items.

This is news? UPS has always been more expensive for me.
For everything in FS/FT that I've sold :
- Stuff < 13oz --> USPS 1st Class
- Stuff >= 1lbs --> FedEx Ground (sometimes USPS Priority)

I've never had a USPS package abandoned in front of my door where anyone could steal it, had the mail carrier "ninja knock" (sneak up, put one of those "sorry we missed you" tags on the door and run), or lie about delivering a package. When possible I ship USPS.

UPS has always cost more than FedEx in my experience, and I've had UPS damage more packages than FedEx, so I stick with FedEx. Though I'll ship smaller items USPS Priority.

Last week I put up a large sign asking to reject the UPS package to be delivered that day, included tracking number etc...impossible to mistake or not see...and the @sshole UPS driver dropped it anyways without ringing.

Yeah, they've really sucked lately...these guys have been worse than I've ever seen, and the pricing is just a part of it.

It is usually better to call the terminal for that.

I didn't realize some people actually count on Fedex more the Ups for shipping...have had a queasy stomach ever since they converted roadway. 😀 Definitely have to give their ground a decent chance now.

You are right. Let's see if I can use it in a sentence.

Your English sucks.

Wow I did it. 🙂

I'm more impressed by your typing skills with a stick so firmly embedded up your @ss. Then again the sh!tty cowboys play football the same way.

Depending on the size... why not use USPS flat rate priority mail boxes? I don't ship stuff often so I don't know what's economical but I would think these should be good value?

The flat rate is good only if you have a heavy but small item that fits in a few boxes. I have a scale I use for first class/priority mail so I can buy my postage online. It paid for itself because postage is cheaper online and saves time. You can skip lines at the post office or even hand it to the mail man if you're at home.
