ups drivers

how much $ do you think ups drivers make?

i've always wondered it...

everytime i see them.. they seem pretty happy with their job..

I think they make about 50k+/year with pretty good benefits. The waiting list to be a driver is huge and they are very strict on who they hire.

My dad is a UPS driver.. 27 years under his belt.

He makes something like $30 an hour, with a few hours of overtime each week. UPS also has great benefits because of Teamsters. No premium to pay for insurance, not even a reduced one. After 30 years of service, he will get $40k/year in pension. He gets rewards every year for safe driving, with large items (TVs, furniture, really nice watches, etc) every 3-4 years.

A good job if you can get it.

And they will hire anyone on the spot because the job sux.

Package handlers are NOT drivers.

Yeah, loaders have a sh!tty job. They work pretty bad hours (usually something like 4-8am or 6-10pm for loading/unloading), don't get amazing pay, and their benefits are no where near that of drivers.. though Teamsters is fighting for them.

All in all I think UPS and Fedex do quite well. Sure they fvck up packages every once in a while, but everyone make mistakes. Based on sheer volume alone(My Fedex facility sorted 5000-8000 packages in a 5 hour shift) I don't think that many packages are mishandled or misrouted.

intersting, i didnt know they made that much 🙂

more power to them..

time to order 5000 lbs of bottled water and NOT feel sorry 🙂

Depending on what Hub you're in it can take up to 8 years. Or at least thats the longest list I've seen. But I've seen others as short as 2 years. At the end of the current contract in 2005 ALL Drivers will be making somewhere around $29 an hour. All drivers make the same pay. Whether it's your first day as a driver or you're a 30 year veteran. They all get raises on the same day also. The benefits they get are great.

If you're interested in the loading job, GO FOR IT. It's a great job. If you're a good employee and don't get sucked into the Union mindset you will advance quickly. LOTS of opportunity for growth.

my friends been a box tosser for about a year and half, and he moved his way up to supervisor pretty fast. He's only 20 something but making a lot more than any of us in college are (of course we'll catch up to him once we graduate) Just work hard and they'll reward you

I have a friend who had 18 years in as a UPS driver, and got a DUI ticket while on vacation. He was fired even though he wasn't on duty at the time.

When I worked as a packkage handler I was talking to the guy and he was like well...you're in school and everything and it's probably just for the summer but just as a number I'm gonna throw out how much do you think UPS drivers make? So I was like 35k and he was like go a lot higher. So I go 45k and hes like go higher. I'm like 60k thinking it's way too much and he's like go higher. I was like 80? and he was like most drivers here average 75k. At which point I shat myself...keep in mind you pay your dues...you handle and throw boxes around 4 hours a day at odd shifts for a year and a half or 2 years. But it's a better investment than going to college🙂

I knew a guy who ran his own business making an assload of money and he worked at UPS just for the benefits and donated all the money he made to charity...
