<< Here's another person to feel sorry for... If your in the bay area maybe u heard about this. A local Wendy's had a bag full of money, and one of the drive threw (through?) workers absentmindedly picked it up, thinking it was the order, and handed it to the customer. Not just a couple hundred, but thousands of dollars. THe person didnt' return it, and their looking for him now >>

I live in San Jose, and haven't heard anything from that story. And as for the guy having to return it? Why? The guy gave it to him instead of his order. Not the guys fault that a Wendy's employee hands over a huge bag full of money.

<< i assume the paper was in a wendy's bag and that's how the guy messed it up. that begs the question why would you put a couple thousand dollars in a wendy's take out bag??? >>

they aren't going to walk out of wendy's to take money to the bank in a bag with a dollar sign on it...

Dude, no way that can be true. Any place that handles real money leaves all cash thats not in the register or in the safe in one of those bank bags. You know the ones I'm talking about... the real thick, rubber/some kind of strong material bags that have the zippers with locks on them. Anyone that mistook that for a paper bag with a wendys logo on it is pullin a scam with the person in the car. Also, that would have been a manager that "left" the bag there, cause in fast food places, when the register starts to get full they empty some of it out into the safe. Only the manager can touch anything in the safe (without getting fired or just being there to pull out another roll of coins) and the only time he's gonna pull that much money out is at the end of the night, when the place is closing. The bag isn't gonna leave his hands until he's in his car on the way to the bank.

UPS sucks. My mom sent 2 packages COD worth over $5000 it was bought by one person. She put cash only, and had it insured for the amount, they accepted a certified check that the guy got his own little stamp and put certified on it, and the UPS guy took it. The bank that the guy gave the check with has been closed down for 3 years as it is. Shouldnt they know better than that? At least they should know that the guy shouldnt write it himself and take a 99 cents stamp on it. UPS says it's not their fault, and doesnt want to give her her money. I think it's UPS's fault, whose would you guys say it is?

Yeah, that's what I was wondering as I saw the news report on TV...

mrcodedude: I love how I get to meet people online that live in a city close to me... makes it all seem more real. What kinda sucks about people being real is when one of those guys manages to get the last thing at ur local Office Depot and then says so on the forums... but that's another story. I think the Wendy's was walnut creek/pleasant hill/concord area, it's not something I really was interested in, just when I read this post it reminded me of the news story I heard on TV the day before. It's more of a humor story then anything else, so I dont think the story will spread too far.

You seem to be forgetting that a great deal of the world's population is pretty dumb and careless.
It certainly *could* have happened although I would say it probably didn't.

well, can't really trust everything you hear on the news today. As for a publicity stunt, how would anyone making up a story like this benefit by it?

You have something foolish to contribute to every thread it seems. It's illigal to spend that money since he knew full well it wasn't intended for him, not to mention it's just wrong to allow someone to be screwed for a simple mistake like that. So with your logic, if I accidentally hand you a million bucks you think that it automatically becomes yours? Wrong!! Try winning that case in court, you'll be laughed out the door. The reason is intent. That Wendy's worker did not intend to give that guy the money, he meant to hand him food, because obviously that is what he paid for. Get it yet?

<< I'm sure you learned your lesson, if its a $4000 rug you need to pay the extra $ and insure it for $4000 >>

that's the problem, my mom is the receiver of the package. My aunt in Canada is the one who forgot to insure it. But surely there must be some explanation to what happened to it. After all, it made it to the UPS hub 5 minutes from my house.

Sew them... even if you have no legal grounds. It would probably cost them a lot more
than $4000 to have some corporate lawyer defend them, so an offer of a cash settlement
could become very likely. It's the American way. ;)

So, it is the guys fault for getting the money handed to him? The guy who ordered his food shouldn't be responsable for other people's mistakes. The money should come out of the employee's pocket.

<< UPS drivers are well paid but they do pay when they screw up. I have a daily pickup where I work and talk to the UPS driver all the time. He was telling me that if a driver has a COD and it's money order/Cashier Check only and accepts a check and it bounces that he has to pay the amount out of his pay. Also if a package disappears between pickup and unloading of the truck they have to pay out of pocket. >>

Money Orders/Cashiers Checks don't bounce (unless fake) . If MO/CC Only is on the COD, then it should be the driver's fault if he accepts a personal check and it bounces, since it explicitly said no checks, only MO/CC.

Concerning the fake CC: It shouldn't be UPS's fault. They're only supposed to pickup the money and give it to you. How should they know if it was a fake cashiers check? Dunno what a solution to that problem would be. good luck.

<< oh, and the only way he can find out that the package is high value (anything over $1k, the computers make him get a sig) is when he scans it with his diad when he drops it off. if its valued at like $100 he can enter in DR porch (driver release, left package on porch). if its like $1,000 the computer wont let him release it until he gets someone to scribble something in the tiny plastic little panel on the diad >>

Yeah, except the computer can't know WHO gives that signature. I work at Best Buy and I helped a customer order a laptop off of bestbuy.com to be delivered to their home. Well they were not at home when UPS came to deliver the package so what does the UPS guy do? He signs for the package himself and then leaves a $2000 laptop on the porch. Nice...
