I have an Athlon XP 2000+
768MB of Ram (PC 2700 DDR)
ATI Radeon 8500LE 128MB

I want to play CS-Source or Half-Life 2 basically. My motherboard only goes to 4x on AGP, no 8X.

My question is this.. If I went and bought a ATI Radeon 9800SE and overclock it to a 9800Pro, or Softmod it.... would my processor or motherboard slow it down too much?

Would it be ok to upgrade the videocard without upgrading anything else.. or should I just save up money and buy a new motherboard, processor too?

you should still beable to play CS-source or half life 2 with your system.

If you install a 9800 pro, you cpu will slow it down abit,, but not that much...

OC your CPU too :)

As for the otherquestion i would definately get a regular 9800Pro and not an SE. THe softmod is not a garaunteed success, andwithout it you just bought a souped up 9600XT.

Ok thanks. That is all I wanted to know.. because I wasn't sure if my 8500le would handle Half-Life 2... but a lot of games are really dependent on RAM.

Edit-
Gamingphreek,
Do you think my ATI Radeon 8500LE 128mb will run Halflife 2?

why don't you just try it first and see if it run. If it doesn't then upgrade video card accordingly
