Upper Case Folder Naming Bug in Windows Explorer

Using the desktop explorer, this occurs when trying to name folders using uppercase letters. Certain character strings will "stay" uppercase, others will shift to lowercase the instant <return> is pressed, only keeping the first letter uppercase. BUT, place a space anywhere in the string, OR sometimes separate with dashes, and all uppercase letters will stay uppercase as intended.

Examples: The names "RMA" and "IJKL" will change to "Rma" and "Ijkl" respectively. The names "DEFGH" and "MNOPQ" will change to lower case, but adding dashes, "D-E-F-G-H" and "M-N-O-P-Q" will stay uppercase! However, adding dashes to "I-J-K-L" doesn't help. It still changes to lower case (except the "I&quot😉.

By adding a space, "R MA" or "RM A", or "I JKL, "IJ KL", "IJK L" will stay uppercase as intended.

WEIRD behavior! Same result on Windows 95 and Windows NT, v4. Discovered this morning on 2 machines at work. Won't get to try on Windows 98 until tonight.

Anyone know what's going on or how to fix? (NOT to be confused with the "capitalize the first letter of every word" setting of some word processors.)

It's not a bug, it's a feature.

And, keeping whatever the user typed in is much easier than automatically shift to lower case. I really don't know why MS programmed that.

Just use the Tweak UI Power Toy and check (or uncheck?) the option "Allow all uppercase filenames"
