upgrading

Hi,
I am planning to upgrade my system.this is what i intend to buy.

XP 1700+
Asus A7V333 mobo
256 PC 2100 Kingston ddr ram(i already have another piece of the ram)
Ati Hercules Radeon 128mb DDR
Viewsonic G71+ SB 17" flat screen monitor

what is the overclockability of the AMD XP chips nowadays? is XP 2000+ & 1800+ any good at it?

Does the Radeon have any known problems? and the monitor? can it last?

what do you think about my upgrading plan? comments?

I'd get at least 256 RAM, but preferably 512+

i am thinking of upgrading to win XP but currently using win 98SE =)

after i buy this piece of 256mb ram, i would have 512 =D

You might wanna wait for the 9200 cards to come out because the 8500 wasn't all /that/ impressive.I don't know how the 9200 will do, but hopefully well. Otherwise, get an OEM 9500 from newegg.com

I'd recommend an nForce2 motherboard by far...
Per Anandtech article:
you'd be insane not to choose a motherboard based on NVIDIA's nForce2 platform.

Also get a Athlon XP thoroughbred core chip, preferably a "B" core.

I had an XP 1800 tbred "A" core and overclocked it to 1800MHz.
I recently got a XP 2100 tbred "B" core and overclocked it beyond 2250MHz! (XP 2800 speeds!)

if you want to be more money conscious, go with the 1700+

these things have been known to do 2.1 to 2.2 ghz (and if you're lucky like me, rommelrommel, and adelcru more than 2.3 ghz)

is it really worth it to spend the extra 30 - 40 bucks for a 2100+? i guess you can decide that...

yes, get the t bred B...

newegg.com is guaranteeing b's for the 2100+ but now for the 1700+

you can get a guaranteed 1700+ b from excaliberpc.com ... they let you pick what week / year cpu you want...

and yes... nforce2 board all the way.... i think the three most popular are:

epox 8rda+
asus a7n8x
abit nf-7?

or something like that good luck!

the A7N8X and A7N8X deluxe will overclock to around the same levels, but i'd recommend the Epox 8RDA+ or Abit NF7-S.they are of the same quality and are much cheaper
