Upgrading your 360 or ps3 game to xb1 or ps4?

Eh, not really surprised. They are completely different OSes. Why would we expect our saves to carry over, most of which are local?

I guess maybe people thought you could do a cloud save and then use that. Many of the games that qualify are built for mp so it might not matter but it is a matter of informing potential customers before there is a negative reaction.

It's not like you can't still play your old games on your old console.

not surprised this went over your head.

the thread is about when you upgrade your 360/ps3 version to the x1/ps4 version, which involves trading the game back. hence the "upgrading" term in the op.

Right, but many also don't understand that their old console will not stop working just because they buy a new one.

Um... I still don't think you grasp the upgrade feature we are talking about. There a programs with retailers that you can trade in a previously purchased 360 / PS3 game for the One / PS4 version for an additional fee of $10 and that game disc. Your old console still does work, however, you won't have the game to continue that save with unless you purchased it again.

A few companies have announced you will keep your MP stats / saves (mostly because these are on a server they host) from current gen to next gen. You won't likely get to keep your single player saves (as most of those are local and probably specific to that platform).

no, I understand that completely.

it doesn't appear that way given your comment about playing a game on an old console even though you no longer have the game.

How about let it go then?

My point was if you truly want everything from that old game then just keep playing it on the old console.

Some people don't get that. Just like some people believed iOS 7 water-proofed their phone.

72k posts and you still post like this?

No, the point is some people do not want to keep playing their PS3 or 360, some people are very much ready to invest in the next systems. Hell it's been almost 9 years. They might not have finished whatever game, but have a limited time to get the superior PS4 or XB1 version. So they just trade up. They'll have to start over. The whole reason this is news is because the publishers & developers want potential customers to know that there is not going to be a way to transfer progress in single player titles. Many people are planning to sell their old console too. Not everyone keeps everything.

i thought this was common sense 101.

Well, I had originally thought maybe you could transfer the save over since it is the same game. Or store a save on a server and use that file if you didn't complete the single player yet. Like I said though many of the games that qualify for this are really MP games.

That is his style and we love him for it. Alk will never admit defeat, never!

Anyway it seems obvious that in cases of a cloud save porting is hild's play. I am not surprised at the news in general--probably too few would care for developers to be able to port an old save, but technically it shouldn't be difficult to so if they did care.

Realistically, the only developers that would care are those with a continuing franchise. Sort of how ME1 > ME2 > ME3 saves all carried over. If it is for COD 107 single player, nobody really cares. Hell, it is like 2 hours long anyway. Where could you possibly save?

those of you saying it would be "easy" to do cross platform saving have absolutely no reasoning for your assumption. next gen has brought many many armchair developers out of the woodwork. i don't recall this many when the 360/ps3 were released.

I'd say far less people were on the internet then. Plus, the PC gamer and console gamer didn't really overlap that much in perception of knowledge of how things work.

If it is the same game, which means it has essentially the same save data, yes it is easy.

Unless that save data was a bad way to do it in the old model.

I am providing honest replies here. Don't attack me again here.

I was probably a console gamer earlier than most of your type.

I now have three kids that play console games which I don't anymore.

I have been through upgrades and all of it.

My original post was simply telling people that really don't realize you don't have to upgrade your games. It's not a requirement. Many don't know this and many also feel for the iOS 7 water proof deal.

Focus on the thread, not on me bro.

Like I said, move on from what I said; don't attack me.

oh so you know that the file formats are identical for the x1 and 360? could you explain to us what the file format is on both of them and how they are stored, i'd be interested in it.

you also know that there is infrastructure setup on 360 that will allow you to store games in the same place that the x1 can access them, for a game that isn't the same game (since the UID on the next gen versions won't be the same as the current gen versions)? i'd be interested in hearing about that as well.

I'd be interested in knowing the file structure methodology on both both consoles. I've looked at a 360 HDD, and it is retarded how it is set up.

file structure != file format.

not saying that you didn't know that, but i'm talking about the file format of game save files.
