No current laptop really fits my needs perfectly, so I'm going to settle for a cheaper machine to tide me over for the next year.

I found an officedepot deal on a machine that seem suitable, but it ships with vista basic. I want to run a different edition of vista. Is there some kind of microsoft office I can contact about this? I mean, there's a license for Basic on the machine, but as the end user, I don't intend to use it. I feel like there must be more people like me (especially with regard to vista basic).

If you are wanting to run a different version of Vista on there, within the Control Panel there should be an option there to upgrade your Vista install. Then you pay them the difference, and you get the key, and any downloads you will need to get the version that you want. As far as physical media for it goes, I really have no idea what you can do ifor that.
