For AGP 4x that will work?

Also, some tests esepcially a recent one posted on the forums show 6800 giving same or worse performance than 6600GT.

yea itll work for AGP 4x..as for the tests...sometimes the 6600GT does out perform the 6800..but the 6800 has more pipes and will benefit you more in the future

Go for 6800, its alittle more then the 6600 gt but is well worth it.

If you game at higher resolution than 1024x728 then you want something with more pipes than the 6600GT. I have about the best 6600GT out there (leadtek extreme 550/1120) and I'll be upgrading it very shortly cause it wont play my RTS of choice (AOE3) at 12x10. :(

if it comes down to a 6600gt or 6800 non gt i'd get the 6800 (though typically this will cost you $30 or so more).

if you dont mind going refurbished , something like

http://www.chiefvalue.com/app/productde...R&ATT=Video%20Cards&CMP=OTC-pr1c3watch

or

http://www.chiefvalue.com/app/productde...R&ATT=Video%20Cards&CMP=OTC-pr1c3watch

would probably be a better choice

(the first one is a sapphire x800pro agp 256mb the 2nd is the same thing with video in for $4 more).

an x800 pro at 475 core, 900 256mb memory would i'm fairly certain eb faster than the 128mb 6800s you can typically get which are 350/700 though even the refurb one is still $50 more

Id take the 6800 over the x800 pro.....one they are like neck and neck all the time...and w/ the 6800 a *chance* w/ the extra the pipes let alone the fact that they all oc nicely

I'd say wait until AOE3 benchmarks are out there and down, then see what you want. As for the person with the 6600GT, I feel your pain. See my sig... and then I tried playing AOE3. Had to turn everything down.

Anyway, I'd say get 6800GT at the moment, but I don't know how well that'll do with AOE. Or, if you have the patience, wait 4-6 months and prices will drop.

AOE3 is released in October.

I want to upgrade in the next 1-2 weeks, as money is here and it might be gone by then, I never know. Also, there is a chance I might get an early beta or something (I work at a fansite).

Actually, when looking at things, it seems I can get a 6800GT for 30-40$ more. But I don't know whether my system can handle that card. Anybody know how to see that?

Thanks for helping.

There is no reason you should worry about the 6800gt working with your system.

x800pros take a notable lead on 6800nus in many benchmaks, they have the chance of unlocking extra pipes as well and tend to overclock a fair bit too, not to mention having twice the ram is nice.

That said, unlocking is always a gameble, and a 6800gt tends to be faster than a stock x800pro.
