Well, I am not sure if this is a cpu, m/b or psu issue but here is the story..

specs:amd 939 3200+,abit fatal1ty m/b, patriot pc3200 2G (4x512), gigabyte gt cooler, antec neopower 480 psu, nvidia 7900gs..

I wanted to upgrade to an x2 4200+ and first upgraded my bios. Initially I had some checksum error issues but cleared cmos and got that fixed..

A week later and I decided to upgrade the cpu..After figuring out a few things I inserted the cpu but when I turned on the computer there was no display and a few seconds later everything shut down. The LED display of the m/b had error 8.7 which the manual says means (check cpu voltage).

So I am not sure what the cause of the problem is..I thought it might be my PSU, but I placed the old cpu back and now that doesnt work either...I am getting the same error message.

I am hoping for a little clarity here..

Thanks

The update to the new bios did work because I saw the date change and the startup flash screen was different. I was working with the upgraded bios for about a week before deciding to upgrade my cpu. I did clear the cmos after inserting the new cpu, not sure if I did after inserting the old cpu.

How do I know that the cpu is seated correctly? Would I get the same messages that I am getting or would it be something different?
