Yeah it seems Crysis does quite like clockspeed, and that's with a mere 680.
You'll get 60 fps but it may dip in places.

I never understod the correlation between CPU clockspeed and FPS. It doesnt make any sense to me.

You would think that it would be the GPU which affected FPS.. i dont know what the CPU is doing which could affect the FPS is such a linear fashion as that graph shows.

Are you serious ?

Yes.

How is a PS4 with 1.6ghz Jaguar cores supposed to run Crysis 3 at 60 FPS?

Its crazy that you need a 3.5 ghz CPU to get 60fps on medium at 1900x1200

You would think the GPU would be the bottleneck but obviously the CPU has a huge effect on FPS in that game

How do you know what visuals the ps4 is going to be capable of?

also a pc has a lot more overhead going on

anybody notice his CPU is not a K series? overclocking would be severely limited to whatever the boost is anyway.

still, for a grand, you should save ~$600 and get a second gtx 680 if you really want slightly better, or wait for the 780/Titan LE. titans are not worth it at $999.

Yes, that's really why we are discussing the CPU in the first place, if it was a K series it would be a non issue.

i was reading some of the responses, and the way they sounded, he was being ridiculed for not overclocking his CPU because he's against it. i may have misunderstood the actual tone. i apologize. i reread the responses and i can see the tone now. this is the one that stuck out the most.

Pointless to go titan at that resolution and no CPU OC. I got rid of my Titan because I noticed no difference between it and my OC'd 7970.

not calling anybody out, i just misread the tones.

Something wrong with my post? I was just giving my opinion.

no there is not. i was using it as an example of why i thought people were attacking him for not overclocking. as i said in the post you just quoted, i misread the tone of what you, and others, meant by talking about him not overclocking.

Titan is not worth its price tag, I'm speaking as an owner, it's only worth it if you're very rich and want the best (Tri-SLI titan). I made a stupid purchase, but I guess you're from the US so it's 25% cheaper then I paid for it and 1k$ is not a lot of money in the US but over here it is, the price of the Titan is close to 2 average monthly wages in my country. Maybe look for a cheap GTX 680? It's going to be faster then a single Titan but with multi-gpu quirks. I had a 4-way CF system before and I got angry with it and bought a Titan when I had to play a third game on 1 GPU because CF either didn't work at all or it made the games unplayable (FarCry3).

enter bios, enter cpu options, change multi to 43 or whatever.. F10, reboot,, system overclocked. end of story.

If you are only gaming at 1200p a GTX 680 w/ 4GB or even a single 7970 oced to Ghz might be a better bet.

Update: Just saw you have the GT 680 2GB. I'd hang on to it since it's more than adequate for gaming at 1200p.

With the 8000 rumours and the 780, I've decided to wait. $700 on a 780 would make more sense than 1200 for a titan (over here prices). Thanks for all the discussion though.

EDIT: As this 3770 seems to be holding me back, I'll spend $600 or so upgrading to a 4770K and Z87 come June, and $700 or so on a 780. That would end up only $100 more than Titan over here and give me a nice boost to FPS.

LOL @ the “you’re CPU limited” comments. It’s amazing how this nonsense continues to persist year after year. People don’t buy Titans to run at medium detail levels with no AA.

I have the same CPU (at stock) with a GTX680 and my GPU bottlenecks me in pretty much every game I own, including titles a decade old. A Titan would provide a large performance gain.

for the vast majority of cases yes and no one can really argue that. still if you want to get the most out of titan or you want to stay at or above 60 fps in all games then yes the cpu needs to be oced. and please lets not debate that if the cpu is only letting you get 50 fps in a scene that you should use 8x AA just to make it gpu limited.

Crisis 3 must be the game of the year if anyone would consider going from a gtx680 to a titan just for it.

Only time i did a major upgrade for a game was when i went from a 478 p4 and 6200le to a e6750 and 8800gts for BF2 and not cause i wanted to,its cause i needed to lol .
