Upgrading to SCSI rig

I'm thinking of moving up to a nice SCSI rig over my IDE one. Anyone know of a good source that talks everything I need to get and all?

What kind of performance advantages will I get (numbers probably won't help since I wouldn't understand them, as opposed to fps)?
How hard is it to set up?
What different kinds of set ups are there and how do they vary.
Should I upgrade my CD-rom and other devices or would I be safe with just getting a new HD and burner?

I did a quick search on Google and this page came up: SCSI FAQ
Well, for Hard drive you'll want at least an Ultra2 Wide(U2W) or the Ultra160 style. SCSI is really about how much you want to spend. For a SCSI controller, I'd buy the Tekram DC-390 U2W. $122 plus shipping on Pricewatch, and it's a retail kit that comes with the SCSI cables. I own this same card, and it has never given me a problem. Great performance, great price, great reliability. For a hard drive make sure you get an LVD(as long as the controller you buy is LVD, most U2W cards are LVD these days). Any 10K rpm LVD drive should be very fast, shop around and try to find some at a good price. Of course, 7200 rpm drives are still fast and less expensive. Burner, I think any SCSI burner should be good enough, Yamaha and Plextor make the most SCSI models it seems.

Here is all my SCSI devices:

Tekram DC-390U2W
Quantum Atlas 10K 9.1 gig
Plextor Ultraplex 40X
Plextor PlexWriter 12x10x32S(just got this and I love it!)

Give Hypermicro a visit, they sell alot of SCSI stuff and have great prices, although they don't carry the Tekram DC-390U2W anymore. You can get an 18 gig 10K drive for $260, which ain't bad at all. I'll be needing another hard drive soon, and I've got my eye on the Atlas 10K II 18.4 gig.

I run a SCSI setup on CD subsystem right now and I must say that it's quite a jump from IDE. It's a bit more difficult to setup, but once you get it running right, there's no turning back. I'm even considering upgrading to SCSI hard drives, once I get a better controller.

My SCSI devices:

Adaptec 2940UW UW SCSI PCI controller
Plextor UltraPlex 40x SCSI-2 CD-ROM
Teac CD-R56S 6x/24x SCSI-2 CD-R
Castlewood ORB 2.2GB external SCSI-2 MO drive
