Upgrading to SCSI 320 and problems with Install

Hello all, it's been a while since I showed my face around here. But here it goes: I just upgraded to a SCSI 320 controller Adaptec 29320A and I have some issues when trying to install Windows 2000 and XP. When I boot from CD, it goes into setup mode, but freezes while it says it's checking my PC for hardware configuration... anyone have any ideas for me?? Anything will help. Another thing is, when I put the jumper of my SCA/LVD connector to say ID 0, the software will tell me it is ID 1... it's always 1 more than I set. So if I set it at 1, it says it's 2... and so on... this is killing me cause I just spent a lot of money on this. I am not running anything too good so I think it could be the BIOS... but there aren't any updates that I can find. I am running a Duron 850 with the adaptec controller and some UltraStar IBM U160 hard drives. I know the drives are good and the controller is good because I got it working on a different machine, but it's the hanging that is bugging me, and the computer! Any help is appreciated!! Thanks!

Read your drive's documentation regarding the jumper settings. Getting an ID of 0 with no jumper on the ID pins sounds pretty normal to me.

During Windows Setup, the first blue screen says to press the F6 key if you have third-party storage-controller drivers. Are you doing that?

If you keep having problems, please post a full list of hardware in your system and stuff. If you want, you can hit Quote and modify this hypothetical spec list to suit your system:

I have just tried my new controller on the computer I built my sister, I don't know the exact specs, but it's a Dell I rebuilt with a 1.5GHz chip, 512 RAM...pretty decent anyway. I slapped my card in it, went to the adaptec website to get some new drivers, installed them ,and it allowed me to format the hard drive easily! The only thing is, when I go to boot from CD to install Windows 2000/XP, it says there is no hard disk installed! I figured out the jumper situation - I was reading it upside down! So I got the jumpers corrected. I still cannot get past this darn disk error message. I tried to use my adaptec driver disk as a third party driver, and it said the disk is messed up, so it's kinda back to the drawing board, but with more confidence I can get it to work... just don't know why I can format it but then it says no disk connected. This is exactly what I did:

Went to my sister's house, invaded her chocolate chip cookies for a pick-me-up, re-learned about the siafu on the discovery channell,
opened up her computer, and unhooked the Master IDE HDD so that just the controller
and hard disk was hooked up. It worked fine up until the setup (for WinXP) said there was no hard drive installed.
So i hooked up her IDE to boot to XP OS and ran the SCSI like it was just for storage.
It worked.
I booted to XP and was able to format the SCSI drive like it was just a storage device, and not a bootable device.
It worked.
And now I am going to try hooking the SCSI controller back up to my PC to see if I can install Windows.. if not, onto other mobo's.
If I cannot get this to work (because I think my BIOS just won't support it "enough") then I'll just have to wait until next weekend
when I build a whole new setup based around the SCSI 320.
In any effort, thanks for the input!
