Upgrading to a Tbird

I currently am running a Duron 600 on an Asus A7V mobo. I have had it overclocked for about 16 months at 800 with no problems. I recently picked up a Tbird 950mhz. I have had a fair bit of trouble getting it to take. I have returned all of the settings on the mobo to jumperless and tried to have to cpu freq. set during post. No luck. I have tried manually setting the vcore, etc, to the 950 level, but to no avail.

I finally stuck the Duron 600 (running at 800) back in an no problems. I am a bit frustrated as I was looking forward to running the TBIRD on this system. There shouldn't be any conflicts. I am currently running: Asus A7V mobo
Duron 600 (O'clocked to 800. Vcore 1.6 volts)
256 MB Ram
Asus 6800 geforce 256 video (64mb DDR)

Any Help greatly appreciated. I am beginning to lose my mind as I have traced all the settings back several time.

Did you unlock the mutiplier on the 600 to get 800? Or did you simply move the fsb up to 133MHz? If so, maybe the 950 Thunderbird is a 200MHz fsb cpu and your are trying to run it at 9.5 x 133 for 1264MHz. If you unlocked the L1 bridges, maybe some of them are cross connected, erase and try again.

I connected the L1 bridges on the 600 to get 800. On the Asus A7V, you can manually set the voltage, which I set to 1.6 volts and the cpu multiplier to 800. I didn't o'clock the FSB. I switched everything back to jumperless and automatic to get the 950 up and running. I reset to voltage back to default which allows the cpu to determine the voltage. (I seems to want 1.75 volts) I am not sure what the tech data says about that tho. If it was a bad chip would it even post ???

I think maybe I should try to get the 600 running back at 600 and then try to make the switch again.

Thanks for your help.

😕

I have tried all configurations. Giving it the 1.75 volts etc. After pressing the reset button a couple of times I was able to get past the post. However it froze up just prior to loading windows. (This happened three times) I am wondering if the chip might be defective. Would it get past the post at all if it was defective ??

Thanks to all who have answered my thread in the last couple of days. Hopefully I can get this resolved fairly quickly !!

What Power suply unit do you have?. It shoud be at least a 300W unit to be able to deal with a Tbird an a Gforce, etc. That could be a problem. You should try your CPU in another Motherboard to make sure it's not deffective. I know deffectives CPUs can do that sort of things, dead ones don't even post, but deffective ones do weird things like that. Try botting just wiht CPU, RAM and VGA. No CD Roms, Sound, etc.

I am running a 300w supply too. Now I have a bigger problem. HEELLLPPP !!! I decided to try some different options incase I accidently got a 266FSB chip instead of a 200. Well, still not working. I decided to try once more and I couldn't get the machine to post. I am fairly certain that the CPU is defective. I decided to try once more and...... I left it sitting for probably about a minute and then.....

SUDDENLY, the power led on the front casing flashed several times and powered down the whole unit.

I tried powering off and then back on but all I get is the green light in the middle of the mobo indicating the board is receiving power. I get no indicator lights on the front of the tower and no fans or hard drives function. ??????

I took out the Tbird and put the Duron back in but I get the same results. I am at a loss about what to do.

Any help is welcomed !!!

😱

God damn, believe it or not I am getting the exact same prob.
I had 1.2 in mobo and wanted to try another. Just got another 1.2 Tbird (200fsb). I took out the old tbird and put the other tbird in, turned it on and nothing. All I get is fans, lights and hdd spining up. Does not post and nothing shows on moniotor just sits there witht theamber light.
So I tried the cmos jumber on mobo etc, Turned on again and nothing.
I would assume this chip is dead but what is really pissing me off is that i put in the original tbird turned on and nothing. I can't figure it out and now i have 2 tbirds that wont work (as far as I can tell). So I got a Duron 700 put it in and you know what "It turned on"???
I cant figure it out and yeah same as windex I would like to know why and what is causing this to happen.

Thanks

Well, I found out that my power supply went. The Tbird is defective I believe. I but the Duron in with the new ps and no problems at all. Then with the Tbird, wouldn't post. I was in for about 40 seconds and even with the heatsink and fan going, when I shut it down, the heat sink was much hotter than it should have been. I pulled the Tbird and its going back.

I am beginning to think that the Tbird was the reason my power supply went in the first place. Is that possible ??

Anyways, thanks for all your help. These forums and generous people sharing information is so helpful !!

Have a great day !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
