Right now I have a AMD939 3500+ (old Winchester series) with a 6600GT PCI-E

I'm getting a 7900GS for christmas and I'm wondering if I will experience any CPU limitations in my games? (I run simulations like Pacific Fighters and FPS shooters like HL2 and lots of strategy games like the Total-War series)

I haven't really thought about this but my CPU isn't exactly "cutting" edge anymore, so I'm wondering if its going to keep up with the 7900GS.

Depends on what resolution you'll play at, but even at 1280x1024 with mid-high settings, most current games (like Medieval II: Total War, Oblivion, CoH, and FEAR) will be GPU bound by the 7900GS long before the CPU is a problem anyway.

I think it's not a half bad match-up.

I too have a Winchester with a 1900xtx, I am having troubles and considering taking a Venice instead from my dealer, although the difference shouldn't be much for most games, my problems could be related to something else as well.

Hope you upgrade and lemme know as well. Anyway, in a majority of games you should be fine. Also, you will be CPU limited even at max settings and moderate resolutions and for newer games the only way for a comfortable gameplay will be reducing the settings to less than max and not vice versa: eg : DA and Crysis.

For most games Winchester @ 2.2-2.6 + 7900GS > Core 2 Duo + 7600GS
