Upgrading to 7800 GT

Hi eveyone,

I am planning to purchase a 7800 GT card. I have to replace my motherboard + my power supply unit. I am not planning to go with the SLI, which is not used in todays games. However, I am planning to buy an SLI mobo if I ever need it in the feature. My questions are:
1) I plan to purchase eVGA 7800 GT. Is this one better than the BFG 7800 GT OC?
2) I also plan to get a ASUS P5DN2-SLI mobo (I have a Intel P4 LGA 775 socket processor). I found one for $107.
3) Could you suggest me a reliable PSU in the price range of $50-$80 that is compatible with both the mobo and the graphics card? Also what is a good range for PSU in watts?

Please let me know what you think guys. Any answer is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

I'd recommend this power supply in the $50-80 price range. Also, there have been problems with the SLI LGA775 motherboards. You'll probably never use SLI anyway, as there'll be better cards out that will trash two 7800GTs in SLI in the future. I'd recommend the ASUS P5LD2, which is basically a budget P5WD2, with support for dual core.

1) The BFG is better than the eVGA, I think. It comes overclocked out of the box and still has a lifetime warranty.
2) I guess that'd work; I don't know much about Intel boards and procs.
3) I'm of the opinion that you want to have at least 400-450 watts in a machine nowadays, especially if you're using the latest and greatest for your video card and an Intel processor (which generally pulls more juice than an equivalent Athlon processor would). As far as PSUs to suggest in the $50-$80 range, I dunno... I would pump some more money into it and make damn sure I got the best available; a bad PSU will cause unending misery.

That said, I found a review of the StarTech 480 Watt Silent Power Supply, and it seemed good. It seems to fall within the upper range of what you're looking for; check out pricing here.

Do you have the GT or the GTX version? I have a 2405fpw Dell LCD. Does it really make a difference, say for high resolution processing?

Btw, thanks for the previous replies...

You want a quiet power supply, I have just the one for you my friend,

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817101516

It's the one I use and it's definitely quiet PSU, it's rated at 27dB at 100% load and idle it's somewhere around 20dB it's quiet has great rails and a split or combine switch on the 12V rails and it's definitely quality made since it's a Tagan

EDIT: And it powers my 7800GT :)

There are a few versions of the EVGA 7800 GT. Some are stock speeds, and some come OC'd like the BFG OC.
Personally I'd get the EVGA over the BFG.

I went from a 6600GT (eVGA) to the 7800GT not GTX and its a hufe perfromance jump. 3x 3dmark05 score and whenever i load a game it autamatically reccomends all high settings with 2 or 4xAA. Difference between eVGA and BFG could be minimal though both very good companies but im a eVGA "fanboy" i don't think you will be disapointed either way but I will choose eVGA.

I like the OC'd BFGs myself.
Bought one for my Boyfriend last year, it's been great.
Bought myself the BFG 7800 GT OC this year. ^^:)
