Upgrading soon. What sort of boost can I expect?

While I follow most of the news and the benchmarks posted on Anandtech and other sites, it's hard to get a grasp of exactly what sort of speed increase I'll be in for when I upgrade because of all the CPU, video, HD, etc advancements since my last upgrade. I'd really appreciate a good guestimate (200%, 400%, etc) on the sort of performance boost I can expect.

My current system is:

Athlon 1.33 GHz T-Bird
MSI VIA KT266 motherboard (the original version with the misplaced transistor that crippled the speed a bit)
Elsa Gladiac GeForce 2 Ultra
512 megs RAM
Seagate X-15 18.4 gig (this is Seagates first 15,000rpm drive - they've apparently gotten much faster since)

My upgrade will be:

Intel Pentium 4 3.06GHz / 800MHz FSB (Springale/Canterwood variant P4 3.06)
Intel 875 chipset MB - probably the red Iwill.
FIC A98P (Radeon 9800 Pro)
Western Digital Raptor SATA x2 [no RAID] (the updated beta, according the storage review, is much faster than the disappointing original)
1 gig of RAM

I realize most of the system I intend to build doesn't even even exist yet - hence the problem. So I'm just looking for solid, realistic ballpark percentages of performance increase in these areas:

Overall System
Gaming
Loading/Saving large files (content creation - I often load/save 100+ meg Photoshop files)

Your input - or suggestions on parts - is certainly appreciated.

i don't think there will be a 800 mhz 3.06GHz chip
there will be a 3.2 GHz chip though....

Hope so! :)

But it's hard to get a sense of how much. There have been a lot of tweaks in CPU technologies since the 1.33 T-Bird. SSE2, HyperThreading, faster system buses, and with the i875 / Prescott there's PNI and PAT. It's difficult to qualify those improvements. To say nothing of faster memory, video boards, and hard drive technologies. That's why I'm a bit puzzled.

I read - somewhere - that there would be a 3.06 variant released along with the 3.2 GHz. Its average price will be $20 more than the existing 3.06 GHz.

I'll try to find the link.

Edit: Here's a link:

http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=6286

"At the end of February, the Pentium 4 3.06GHz (HT) chip will fall to $589, the 2.8GHz to $375, the 2.6/2.66GHz chips to $241, the 2.5/2.53GHz chips to $193, and the 2.2GHz, 2.6GHz and 2.4GHz chips to $163.

When Intel launches its 800MHz system bus in Q2, we'll see the prices fork, depending on whether the Pentium 4s support 533MHz or 800MHz/HT technology.

So for the 800MHz hyperthreaded chips, a 3.20GHz P4 will cost $637, a 3.0/3.06GHz chip $417, a 2.8GHz chip $278, a 2.6/2.66GHz chip $218, and the little 2.4GHz hyperthreaded chip $178.

This will contrast with 533MHz system bus prices for the 3.0/3.6GHz at $401, the 2.8GHz at $260, the 2.53/2.5GHz P4s at $193, and the humble 2.40GHz Pentium 4 at $163."

EDIT AGAIN:

Here's the article I was thinking of. It's a little clearer.

http://inquirerinside.com/?article=7450

"When Intel launches its Pentium 4 3.20GHz CPU which will support 800MHz system buses, it will cost $637, but here Chipzilla will fork things by selling Pentium 4s in two ways. You will be able to buy bog standard 533MHz bus Pentium 4s at 3.06GHz, for example, at $401. But the 800MHz versions will sell for $417 at launch."

It'll be a tremendous boost. It'll boost you so high you will feel like you're in heaven.

thanks for the link.
anyway, i believe that the 800MHz chip will run at 3GHz, not 3.06GHz

LOL

You know, I went from a P90 with a no-name video card to a Pentium II 400 with a Voodoo 2 a few years back. Ran benchmark software that happened to list the measure of a P90 (at the very bottom of the scale) and the new system rated 20 times faster. ;)

You are right!!! you can't get 3.06ghz with a 200fsb and whole number multipliers....it is going to be 15x200 for 3ghz....
