When upgrading ram do you need the same brand?

Because I dont know what type of brand of ram I have, so if I need the same brand how can I check mine?

Thanks.

Assuming you have a name brand PC you can go to Crucial and plug in your brand and model there. They'll show you what's compatible.

Very true, but it's a simple way for a novice to get memory upgrade info for their store bought systems.

You should be able to look up the model on the manufacturer's website, too. That should tell you what's in the system. Buy Kingston.
