Upgrading ram on a Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop

I'm upgrading the ram on an old Dell Inspiron 8600. It has two 256mb sticks right now. We have a 1GB stick to install. Is there any problem with installing the 1GB stick in slot one, and leaving the 256mb stick in slot two?
I normally would install sticks of the same size when upgrading, but this is what we have to work with.
Thanks

That should be fine. But you may want to look into the laptops specs and see what the max amount of RAM it can handle is. It may only max out at 1Gb thuse rendering the aditional 256mb useless.

Everything is kosher now. It's not a dual channel ram motherboard, so no worries. I was able to use both the 1GB stick and the 256mb stick.
Thanks
