Upgrading RAM in Toshiba Satellite a135-s4527

My mother in law has the above computer and I was wondering about upgrading the RAM. Currently it only has 1GB and from what I have read the MB only supports 2GB.

I have 2x2GB sticks of DDR2 PC6400 RAM that I tried in it and the machine would not boot with both sticks. I just went with a single 2GB stick and it booted fine. So I'm guessing I can either go with 2x1GB or 1x2GB.....not sure what the better solution is.

Now, going from 1GB to 2GB is not really much of an improvement. Would it be better to just upgrade to Win7 to get the most out of the machine? Or should she stick with Vista and go with the 2GB upgrade.

I'm trying to look online to set if maybe there is a BIOS update that will allow a higher amount of RAM to be installed but I think we will be limited to 2Gb here.

Any help is appreciated!

Sure it is. The extra gb will help plenty. I'd do the 2x1gb since they are cheaper than 2gb sticks.
I would put Win7 on it, but for a m-i-l just clean it up and do all the updates. Trim all the fat, get it running smooth and give it back.

🙂
