Ok, this is all about considering upgrading my bro's budget pc to a system that will run BF 2.

Current:
PC CHIPS M811LU Socket A (Socket 462) VIA KT266A ATX AMD Motherboard
AMD Athlon XP 2500+ Barton 333MHz FSB
Apollo ATI9200SE-64MB Radeon 9200SE 64MB DDR AGP 4X/8X(says its 128 MB)
2 x 256MB PC 2700

New:
CHAINTECH VNF4/Ultra Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16813152049
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice 1GHz FSB Socket 939
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16819103537
ATI Radeon X800XL 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16814102509
mushkin Value 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400

With the current mobo, the processor must be underclocked at 266 FSB, and the main concern is the video card not being able to handle BF 2.

Also what is the difference in http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820146299
and

Is it time to upgrade, and if yes, would you consider something different with that, or similarly less, price range?

(My only tiff is that the processors are almost the same, and if you were gonna upgrade, would get a 1MB L2 cache, and that it is out of my personal price range.)

This is a nice deal on a X800XL if you want to order from someplace other than newegg.

Looks like you have a solid system going there.

The difference between both memories that you stated is that the corsair is a lower latency and they generally better for oc

the processors are NOT almost the same, the venice core has onboard memory controller and the 3000 venice core will kick the sh*t out of that barton, i went from a 2500 barton to a 3000+ winchester core and it was a huge difference! you will be amazed at the difference between the 2 set-ups.....I also got the Nforce 4 chipset on my ecs KN1 extreme motherboard, and I used to hate ecs, but this board is the best i have ever owned.....currently running 2 gigs of dual channel ddr(4X512) kingmax, plays my combat flight sims flawlessly, when i had 1 gig dual channel my flight sims would take too long to load up and way to long to close out, pacific fighters took almost 45 seconds to get back to the desktop, but after adding another gig of dual channel ram, it closes out instantly. nice set up you have listed there as well should do well....

Is this a good time to buy, I mean, if he waited like, a week, would a new part come out and decrease the price in anything?

I'm guessing he will go with the Corsair since they have better latency.
