was going back and forth between a 2.0 AMD64 (the 3000+) or a p4 2.8-3.0 ghz processor...

despite the difference in clock speed, will the 64 make up for that in terms of computing power?

3000+, the A64 beats the P4, especially at those speeds in gaming benchmarks. Plus you'll have the future benefit of 64-Bit computing whenever MS decides to release Windows XP 64-Bit Edition.
