Current specs
I7 920 @ 3.5ghz corsair h50 cooler
mushkin ddr3 6gbz
intel dx58so
seagate 500gb hdd
xfx 5870 1gb
corsair 750watt psu
antec sonata 3

i game on a samsung t240hd so 1920x1200 is my native res i do like crank my settings.

i want to upgrade my pc a bit but i am not sure on what i should be upgrading been out of the loop for a long time since i built this thing 2 years ago.
upgrading budget 600-800$ canadian and i shop at www.ncix.com

Looking for a GPU upgrade mainly?

Were it my computer i would get the following

SSD
GPU


And possibly a case if you are so inclined and better cooling, you should be able to manage more then 3.5Ghz.

Well here is a comparison between the 570 and the 5870. And here is the 570 vs the 6950 (ATI's competitor to the GTX 570)

As you can see your GPU is already a fiarly good one. You could if you were so inclied pick up a 2nd one and do X-fire.

And yes your CPU is fine, i would OC it a bit more but it is fine, you could get better for about $350-400 But the increase in performance wouldn't be worth the expense in my opinion.

I agree with the SSD. You will see a world of difference loading up the OS and Games.
