Upgrading Older Notebook

I have an older Toshiba Satellite A45-S121 (Bought around 2002 Don't remember the exact year)

Current Upgrades
upgraded ram to 512MB from the stock 256MB
replaced stock 40GB HDD (It failed No backups FTL :) with a Seagate 160GB (PATA)
Currently using a PC Card Wireless card (Linksys WPC54G)


Can I upgrade the CPU? It a standard MPGA 478 Socket in there (Currently has a Celeron 2.8GHZ SL77T)
I Ran the Intel Chipset Utility and here is a Image of the results
I looked up the Data and Intel says it supports up to a 400-533MHZ Bus CPU

Dumb Question time say I buy a higher CPU Bus Speed than the motherboard supports (800MHZ in a 533 Motherboard) Would it explode or not post or just run slower?

I already upgraded the HDD from 40GB to 160GB and the new HDD make it a little faster

I know I could pick up ram for this computer for cheap
Can I make this computer run Vista?

My main Plan is to get this machine to run Windows Vista or Windows 7

512mb of ram is not a good idea if you plan on vista. 1gb minimum. its a resource hog compared to xp

You need more RAM (2gb is highly recommended). Putting in an unsupported processor may just lead to it not booting.

i did some upgrades to a friend who had this model of laptop, 2gb or memory will work in the system, and the processor can be upgraded to, make sure you dont get a prescott chip for it. going from the celeron to a non-celeron processor will make a good performance jump, that accompied with the a ram upgrade will make it night and day.
