Hey everyone,

My dad has an old HP Omnibook 600C. Its a 486 with 12MB RAM. I want to put Windows 95 on it since he has Windows for Workgroups on it now. However, all he has ia floppy drive. I was thinking of connecting the laptop to one of my computers and transferring the Win95 files by serial but am not sure how I would do it in Windows for Workgroups 3.11.

Can someone help me out here since I would not like to buy anything like Laplink etc.

Thanks

Actually Win95 was released on Floppy originally, so you may be able to find it used on floppy somewhere.

If I remember correctly, the CAB files are about 1.7mb. You can format a 1.44 floppy to 1.7 with a special utility, and copy your files to the HD from floppy.

Unfortunatley I don't know how to do a serial or direct connection to win 3.11.

Hey, this is how I got Win 95 and Office on my dads old 486 laptop: a borrowed zip drive at the paralell port.

There are dos drivers available at iomega so all you gotta do is get the installation files from the install CD onto the ZIP disk using your "big" computer.
Win95b fits on a 100MB disk
Office97 installer barely fits on 100 MB if you leave out the help files, clipart, fonts etc...
