Ok

So I got this old P3 450 Compaq from work, they were tossing it so I decided to take it home and make it a internet terminal.

Heres the deal though, I didnt realize that a 450 cant really handle much, so the whole internet experience is limited, and I rather like the idea of having my other computers offline.

So I wanted to push the processor....so I installed the sandra software, and checked and it says my upgradeability is 1000MHZ +, socket/slot XU1, Slot 1.

So heres my Plan
Buy this
- PIII 1.333GHz 256KB 133MHz FCPGA2 (Tualatin) - OEM

or

Pentium III 1.13Ghz 133Mhz 256K 370 pin PPGA

and get a

FCPGA CPU Adapter Board - Slot 1 to Socket 370

Now with these adapter boards one says slot 1 to slot 370..........and then one says slot 370 to accept tualatin....so does that mean if I get the first one, that I cant use a tualatin chip? or can I...or can I use both adapters?

I really need to get this processor upgraded, b/c shes a real dog....It gets bound up on everything, and I cant really handle it. Please any help you can give will be great appreciated.

Do these adapter boards work? I see they post as say a 450 MHZ but actually run at 1.2 or whatever.

Thanks in advance

Yes, unless it's designed for a Tualatin, the slocket won't work with it. And no, it will post as whatever processor you have installed. Why would it post as a 450mhz proc.?

I dont know,

I just read a few user reviews on the website I would buy from and they said that after installing the adapter board and chip that it posted as a lower processor.....and then they ran sandra and it posts as 1.3 or whatever the processor is.

Ok, so I am off to the for sale section.........

Wheres the P3 1 Ghz chips for about $40 bucks.........I can get them brand new from newegg for around $50...which is where i am off to after that.

THanks man

Any idea whats the difference between tualatin and a regular P3 chip?
