I am staying with my S4, one of the best devices so far, but quite curious about S5 new battery-saving mode. The stock 2800mah battery definitely not adequate for super heavy user likes me coz my S4 (2600mah) needs several OEM batteries from Amazon + a mpj extended battery, and I am sure they must have been planning to push out extd batteries for S5 already. My brother will be upgrading to the new S5 and probably need an external battery since he also plays a lot on his phone.
Would you choose staying with S4 over having a new S5?

The S5 doesn't seem like a big enough leap for me to get it. One thing that annoys me is that I will new need USB 3.0 charging cables for the car and because of the new size I will need another case. I think I will wait for S6.

I somewhat agree with this. It is going to be faster, have a better camera, and larger screen, but other than that, I don't think it is worth it to go from S4 to S5. It is kind of like how iPhone cycles are.

Personally, I have a Moto X, and I was on the fence for a bit there which phone to switch to. After all of the leaks for the new HTC One, it has been decided that I'll be changing to it instead of the S5. I just like HTC's mentality so much more than Samsung's.

Dumped Samsung and went for Nexus. I don't think I'll touch Samsung devices for the foreseeable future unless they radically redesign their bloated TouchWiz interface.

I'm still on S3 but the nexus 6 is more intriguing to me at this point than the S5. More research will need to be done, of course.

edit: and part of the reason for this is samsung's trending towards locking their devices, preventing root, etc.

Try out the phone in person when it comes out, along with all the other new phones. No reason or need to try to decide now.

I will say anecdotally, that a friend who swears by Apple and works for a company that has gotten S5s to test their service on was pretty impressed by the phone. He was quite keen on the display and said the fingerprint scanner wasn't half bad, especially as Samsung has opened it up to 3rd party services and they (along with their competitors) are working on integrations as we speak.

I personally wouldn't bother. As a matter of fact I don't think anyone with a 2013 flagship should but that's just me.

No way. If it weren't for the better battery life I can't really think of a reason to upgrade my Droid DNA. S4 to S5 is pointless.

Last year's flagships are still good, no real reason to upgrade other than wanting the latest and greatest. Upgrading from something like an S3 makes a lot more sense.

no reason to upgrade from an S4. same screen, same features, bump in processor speed.

Yeah I'm starting to feel like this. I've been eyeing my next upgrade and my gut tells me to get away from Samsung if I want to continue to use root features and custom roms. I'm on an S3 myself and have been looking closely at the LG G2 or something like that. Sadly Verizon doesn't support the Nexus 5 or I might have considered it as well.

You can still use your old cable. The USB 3.0 cable just has an extra connection. USB 2.0 cables work fine.

I haven't installed 4.4.2 on my S4 yet, but my Note 3 is much more responsive (still on 4.3) and doesn't stutter when closing apps or clearing all.

Maybe the software cleanup that Samsung seems to be rolling out will help improve the S4 in this area, but if the S5 is anything like the Note 3, there's a noticeable difference in every day use.

Going from Apple to Android is one thing. Different worlds. Going from an S4 to an S5 is quite another. You're basically looking at the same touchwiz with some changes. I doubt it's enough time for someone to be convinced by it unless there is a feature they really want.

No, he was directly responding to a post about GPE. If you don't know what GPE is, you shouldn't be giving an opinion on Android options.

mm, i think he was responding to the first part of that post.

"That has happened recently. [TouchWiz has slimmed down]"

"Not enough, still way too bloated and crappy UI."

I wouldn't even call it an upgrade. S4 is close to the same thing in a more compact and lighter package.

Don't see point to upgrade to it from any 2013 flagship phone unless there is something very specific needed.

S4 users I wouldn't even consider it.
