Upgrading my Workstation with 5930K, Upgrading Gaming Rig with Parts from Workstation

I have 2 builds I'm looking to improve and swap parts between, and I'm also looking to get some new parts that are needed with the new Processor. Feel free to check their specs in my sig. The main reason I'm pulling the trigger is I recently moved up to gaming on a 2560 x 1440 monitor, and it is killing my Gaming Rig. I'm mainly looking at opinions on my choices for Motherboard and RAM

1. Workstation - I do Compositing, 3D Modeling, and Rendering. Software I use include Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere, 3DS Max, Maya, and Handbrake.

Gaming - Current Games, and a Steam Library STUFFED with games I'll probably never get around to playing. I mostly play Shooters and Action Oriented Titles.

2. My Budget is around $800 upfront, but I'm flexible. If a case can be made for improvement without extremely diminishing returns, I'll consider it. Keep in mind I'll also be upgrading my GPU soon, just not yet.

3. USA

4. N/A

5. I like Intel, NVidia, ASUS, Gigabyte, Corsair, Antec.

6. Mostly these upgrades will be Chipset Related.

Cases - Antec Sonata Solo II
Memory - 24GB DDR3 between both builds.
SSDs
Hard Drives
Power Supplies
GPUs (Will keep the 670 in Workstation, looking at a better one for Gaming Rig in near future.)
Radiators (Hyper 212 EVOs)

7. Defaults are fine. I might tweak around with the built in mobo overclocking, but nothing extreme if anything at all.

8. Workstation - 2 x U2413 1920 x 1200

Gaming - 1 x U2713HM 2560 x 1440, 1 x P1913 1440 x 900

9. Buying parts within the next week or two.

10. Windows 8.1 Pro Retail

-Workstation Improvements-

i7 5930K - In the mail. Purchased for a bargain from Intel for working in Retail.

ASUS X99-A - Not purchased Yet, looks like a good board in relation to other options.

http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-X99--DDR4...tag=pcper04-20

Crucial Ballistix 16GB DDR4 - I really WANT an upgrade to 32GB for RAM preview in AE, but holy crap DDR4 is expensivo... Is it worth it to buy now, or wait?

-Gaming Rig Improvements-

i7 3770k from Workstation

Up to 24GB DDR3 (probably just 16GB)

(Looking at the future 960 or the current 970 to power the 2.5k monitor at a later date)

-Questions-

What do you guys think of that Motherboard?

Should I just get 32GB RAM?

Is the RAM I chose a good choice? I already think the price of DDR4 is through the roof, but I would prefer G.SKill.

Will the Hyper 212 EVO cooler work with x99 motherboards? I have all the adapters that were included. If not I might go with something Closed Loop.

2011-3 and 2011 use the same mounting holes, so if it was purchased around the same time as the 3770K, it should work. However, that begs the question of what HSF are you using in the gaming rig? I'd be tempted to just leave the whole CPU/mobo/RAM/HSF assembly together and transplant it to the gaming machine. Then get a new cooler for the new workstation.

Regarding the rest, is that $800 counting the 5930K or not? If it does count the 5930K, then we need to know how much you paid for it so we can figure your remaining budget.

I have the same one. So I'm just going to take the chipset and the case and swapping some parts.

As for the budget. I spent $200 on the i7, but that ain't part of the $800 budget. The $800 max is for Mobo, RAM, and any cooling I need if I get the closed loop water cooler.

OK, so you have two Hyper 212's? I would just hold onto those and not worry about a new cooler just yet.

With $800, I would go for:

ASRock X99 Extreme4 $191 AR
Crucial DDR4 2400 32GB $380
Total: $571 AR

If you want to go over budget by $50, you can then tack on this R9 290X for a really nice price:
ASUS R9 290X $280 AR AP

Alternatively, if you want the GPU now, but can't go over $800, then you can grab this 16GB kit instead:
Crucial DDR4 2400 16GB $200

Ah, lack of reading

It was between the 4790k for $120, or the 5930k for $200. I wish it would have been the 5960X for a bit more, but hey, when you're basically getting 60% off a good sale price on an expensive processor, you can't complain too much 😉

While that is a great price, I play on the green team. Might seem silly with a price so good, I'm going to wait for the 960 to come out and see what the numbers are. It's not so much that I can't afford a GPU now, it's that I want to wait to see numbers on the 960. I've almost always used Sub $200-$300 cards. HD6850, GTX 660TI. I suppose I would switch if the price to performance is right. I'm looking at ordering these in early to mid January, so any special offers are likely to expire anyway.

ASRock X99 Extreme4 $191 AR
Crucial DDR4 2400 32GB $380
Total: $571 AR

That's a pretty good looking combo. I've been thinking and I'm pretty sure I will pull the trigger on the extra RAM.

I wouldn't go below a 970 GTX on a 2560x1440/1600 screen. That's assuming you like eye candy and want to keep the framerate as high as possible.

Yeah, I do. Last time I didn't want to go lower than an X70 card it was the 670 before the 660 and 660Ti came out, and they are all very close in performance. Only difference is the 660Ti ended up $100 less expensive when it came out. It's supposed to be coming out soon, so we'll see. If it doesn't come out soon enough I'll jump right in, but I'll probably give the 660Ti a shot at driving the display with the new chipset for a while, then I will get a new card.

It seems pretty silly to wait for a slower card which will probably come in around the same price. But that's the price you pay for sticking to a single vendor I suppose.

That is true, but I've had some bad experiences with AMD. I've had more cards last longer with NVidia, and drivers have been more stable and consistent, and with the exception of the 470, they normally run cooler. I'd rather pay a premium for a card I'm confident will run cool and stable, than a card I won't trust and will nitpick about every little thing. I'm not a fanboy. I'm sure there are people on the other side who have had the opposite experience. I just prefer NVidia myself, especially EVGA NVidia. There are practical reasons for this too. The room where my gaming computer is gets VERY hot in the summer, especially with the computer running, so the more energy efficient I make the gaming computer, the less heat I need to sweat out in the room while I'm gaming.
