Upgrading my friends PC tomorrow and have a few questions

Ok my friend ordered a new PSU, Mobo, and Video Card I have never really upgraded a Mobo for a PC. So I was wondering do I just tranfer everything (CPU, RAM, etc...) to the new motherboard and will windows still boot up properly? Or will I need to re-install windows altogether?

i recomend reinstall, make sure you are careful with the cpu, make sure the cpu is the right one for the mobo. make sure the standoffs are right for the new mobo, dont leave standoffs on there that are not used

I assume Win XP? If it's a similar chipset you should be able to boot just fine. However if you get a BSOD you should consider Performing a Repair Installation.

I've neverr tried using a Windows installation on a motherboard with a different chipset, but I've been told that if all of the drivers are removed before the transfer it might work. But, it would probably be easier to just do a reinstall, as long as nothing important is left on the partition.

This is a perfect opportunity for your friend to make a backup of all his important data

I do motherboard swaps and repair installs daily and it works fine 99% of the time.

I would make a backup of everything, because now is a good time to do a reformat and start clean.
