This is the computer in my sig.

I was thinking of upgrading the processor from the 3000+ to the X2 4800+. Its available on amazon for $130 with free shipping. I was also thinking of doubling the memory. What kind of performance increase can I expect?
 
Sadly you have a Socket 939 motherboard (same as mine!) but the only X2's that are widely available today are Socket AM2 (the one on amazon is AM2). So you'd also need to upgrade your motherboard, and likely get DD2 ram to replace your current DDR ram.

EDIT: newegg has some OEM 939 x2's available for a decent price, and your current heatsink should work just fine for them.
 
Man we have, like, the same computer! Corsair xms ram, nVidia 6x00 video card, Asus A8V Deluxe, NEC ND-3520A, Logitech Z-2300 speakers!
 
I just got an Opteron 165 Denmark core and 2gb GSkill ram (forget the exact name), timing on it was nuts though.

Spent $300 on 2gb RAM/dual core processor, it's arriving tomorrow 🙂
 
You should see a decent increase, depending on what you are doing. Is it mainly for gaming or other things?
