OK, I hope this isn't offtopic, I just didn't want to post separate hardware questions in different forums and clog them up. Here's what I have in my comp right now:
Antec clone 1040 case (power supply: 420)
Athlon 1700+
Gigabyte (Via chipset) 7DX+ motherboard
Volcano 7+ (loud as hell) cooling fan
various other cooling fans that might make more noise than sense
ATI 9500 Pro
Audigy2 Platinum
Plextor 708a
DVD drive
80 gig HD (Seagate)
various other stuff that I don't think is relevant to my question
also: Fuji FinePix 2650
MOST IMPORTANTLY - TO SPEND: $400 plus whatever money I can recover by selling the case with PS, mobo, cpu and cooler, as well as the digital camera. So about $550 if I'm lucky
Here's what I want:
New case
New PS (obviously)
New mobo
New processor
New digital camera
If I can't make it all within the budget, I'll can the digital camera idea. Basically, that purchase will be made (or not) last with what money I have left.
I know the case I want. It's the CoolerMaster WaveMaster...with PS about $200 (cheaper if I can find a coupon/pm deal)
Now my question is this:
What processor/mobo should I get so that they would be up to par with my aforementioned components? A year and a half passed since I'd built this thing, so I am out of touch with prices and such...ideally I would like to stay within the original 400 bucks on case/mobo/cpu/cpu cooler. One thing I'd like is for my resulting machine to be reasonably well cooled (water cooling might be too complicated and expensive, I'm guessing) and not as loud as this one...or is heat no longer that much of an issue with new processors? These older Athlons run hot as hell, let me tell ya...
And since I'm spending whatever money left on a digicam (if a right camera might come along with coupon/pm/rebate, I might bump up the budget), I am looking for: decent zoom (3x or greater); ability to shoot video with sound and 3+ megapixels. MSRPs on all these are higher than my remaining budget, but we are all dealseekers .
.
Send me your thoughts!
Thanks!!!!!
EDIT: OH YEAH!!! I NEED A MOBO THAT IS BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE WITH PC2100 DDR RAM!!!!
