Upgrading my Celeron

😱 The fastest upgrade HP says I can install is a 800 mhz Celeron from my current 700 mhz Celeron. The 800 mhz also has a faster fsb, 100 mhz versus my current 66 mhz. Will I notice a difference in performance with this faster fsb?

Mostly, I do word processing and dsl internet browsing... I'm not much of a gamer.

Thanks for your help.

Save your money for a "real upgrade". 700 @ 66 to 800 @ 100 won't get you surfing faster or speed up your WP. 🙂

The max speed processor limitations on many system spec sheets aren't necessarily accurate- they reflect the max speed available at the time the blurb was written.... Any system that will accept a 800 fcpga celeron should accept them up to 1100, iirc... To be sure, check in on the HP user group forums....

You may not need new memory, a lot of pc100 was sold as pc66 during the transition period, vendors knew it was compatible. You'll need to go to a 1gig or 1.1 gig processor to make it worth the trouble.... Beware of the 256k cache fcpga2 tualatin celerons, they won't work w/o mods or a special (powerleap) adapter....
