I am hitting 2520 (280x9) with my A64 Winchester 3200+ @1.525V with an XP-120/Panaflo 120mm L1A.

If I spent in the $100-150 range, I could go to a A64 4000, 3800x2 or Opteron 146.

Would these chips offer significant performance gains? I do just email and web ;) j/k.

My graphics card is a BFG 6800GT OC.

My memory is OCZ EL Platinum Revision 2 PC3200 (2x512MB, 2-2-2-5 1T) @ 229.1MHz 2-3-3-7 1T 2.9V

Thanks

You won't see significant performance gains in single threaded applications.

If you go dual core then you'd be able to do 2 things at a time but your cores will run at the same speed.

For example, I recently upgraded from A64 3200+ to A64 X2 3800+. Both run stock at 2.0 GHz and I OCed both to about 2.5 GHz. In single threaded applications they perform pretty much the same (games, etc.).

If I stuck single core I would go to a San Diego a64 4000+.

I think these can hit about 2800 (only 10% over me), but I get SSE3 added.

Anyone using a San Diego 4000+?

I'd buy a dual core processor. Single threaded apps might be the same, but multithreaded apps won't, and if you do any DVD ripping/encoding etc., it will be much faster. Plus, you can multi taks much more easily (like rip dvd+surf web/play game etc.)
