Upgrading MUST keep Win2k, help!

I will be putting in a new MotherBoard & CPU by next week, but I have to keep my current hard drive intact, atleast my OS. Is this possible?? (have to keep because I got win2k free, but dont have a CD, and I am definetly not going to ME/98 ever again)

How will you upgrade a driver when it asks "place your cd into drive x:" You will need the original files you installed your OS originally with. If they are on your hardrive however, it will work, just remove all the devices from device manager, shut down, replace your MB ect. reboot and windows will recognise your new devices. Make sure you have startup disks and the Emergency Repair Disk.

My advice is to get a win2k cd, you will eventually need it if your replacing motherboards and the like.

rbV5, if you copy the i386 directory from the Win2K CD onto your drive, you don't need to insert the CD anymore.

Yea, thats why I said "If they are on your hardrive however, it will work" but, if you have to format.........

You may be fine, but you may also have problems. It is always wise to reinstall your OS when you replace your motherboard. New motherboards use different drivers things such as IDE controllers adn such. You may have conflicts. Try it, and if it doesn't work go out and find your "free=pirated" (not bashing you, i didn't pay for mine either, just come out and say that i installed it off someone else's copy and now i dont have it) copy of win2k and reinstall. You should have copied the i386 directory off the cd. Then you coudl reinstall from that.
