Upgrading Monitor

For that kind of $$, why dont you get a 19" Samsung - Staples and BestBuy have them on sale for @225 to $230 - Samsung does make a nice LCD

Other people ask me the same thing. Now i'm not a wiz at all this but my understanding would be that since both have the same resolution (17" and 19"), the 19" would not have as good appearance and quality as the 17". At least thats what someone told me because the pixels are more spread out. Plus i sit really close to the desk. 17" just seems a confortable size for me. I was originally going to get the first one, but after reading reviews from the 19" model of the BX, it seems that these TN panel type LCDs have certain problems. Then i looked at the second one and it seemed pretty good, so now i am uncertain of which one to get.

I still think number one is your best choice of the two 17" monitors. If you want to go to 19", then do some research to find the best one that fits your budget.

I still don't get the whole a-si TFT/TN vs a-si TFT/LCD. Thats the only thing keeping me from making my decision. Like i said, after reading what people were saying about the TN panel issues with the 19" model it scared me from choice one, which was my original choice. I only want to go 17", if i went bigger i'd go 20.1 but i'm working with a limited budget.

Samsung 940BF or 740BF. I've heard problems like limited viewing angles on the BX series (even more so than a normal TN).

Both are a-si TFT/LCD, one is rated more specifically as a "TN". Both are TNs too.

Yeah, slightly out of my price range. I'd barely be getting by with the prices of the two i picked out. Plus, i'm use to my Samsung 17" and really like samsung after having used one and seen others.

What resolution do you currently run in games and on desktop. I, like you, thought 17" was the sh!t having used 15" monitors all my life. Now, 1.5 years later, I madly want to get a 20+ due to the small-ness of the native resolution and just plain screen size. The 10s are dirt cheap, so do reconsider sicking with 17".

Bump. All right, if yall had to choose between choice one and two, which one would it be? If those were the only monitors left on earth. Help a fellow computer enthusiast out, I'm thinkin choice two.

My first comment is that if it were me I'd keep shopping around because you can do a lot better then either of those moniters for $200... a friend of mine just snagged a Viewsonic 19in widescreen at Costco for $198 & it looks great. (forgot the model number)

But if I had to pick one of yours I'd go with #2.
