Hello folks, newb to the board looking for memory help. I have a gigabyte ds3 m-board running about a year with no issues. In late September, I upgraded the original memory with a-data 2 x 1g 1.8v memory modules in slots 1 & 3. http://www.newegg.com/product/...p?item=N82E16820211066 . About a week ago I purchased the exact same item number from Newewgg, thinking I would get 4g going with 2 (1 x 2g) kits. Unfortunately, after installing the new ram, I got a loud beep followed by an immediate reboot. This was an endless cycle until I powered down. I tried setting the memory manually in bios to 800 and 5-5-5-18 timings as stated on specs. No change. I could not get one stick of new memory to boot up in slot 1, fast beeps followed by auto reboot. Also, had trouble getting original memory up and running. Inserted original memory in slot one and would not reboot. I took a break reinserted the other original memory in slot 1 and I was able to reboot. Now I only have one original stick running in slot 1. What's going on, what do these beeps mean, and how can I get these modules up and running together. Also, even though I purchased the exact same item number from Newegg within 2 months, their part numbers are different. 1st one purchased is labeled HYQVE1A16, and the most recently purchased one is labeled ADQVE1A16. Any help would be appreciated.

You probably have the 965P-DS3 revision 1.0 board, correct? If so, make sure you have flashed to the latest BIOS available from Gigabyte. That board is very picky about the memory used (I had the same board and it gave me fits with my OCZ Gold sticks until I updated the BIOS).

After you update, go into the BIOS and load the "optimal defaults" and save/reboot. Then go back into the BIOS and jack up the memory voltage to about 2.0v (all while using the original sticks that work). Save and reboot. Shut it down, swap for one of the new sticks and see if it is recognized. If not, try the original again and make sure the voltage has not reset (this motherboard is bad to detect a failed boot as a failed OC attempt and return to defaults without notifying you). Once at 2.0v again try the new memory stick in a different slot and see what happens.

Playing around with mine I was eventually able to get the OCZ memory working in sockets 2/4 completely stable but it never would work with those sticks in 1 or 3 no matter what I tried.

O.K, I'll look into flashing the bios I have f6 right now. I'm new to flashing the bios, but if it's what I have to do, I'll learn how.
