Has anybody successfully upgraded a Mac Pro 2009 Quad-Core with a Gulftown 6-Core chip? According to the Anandtech review here the single socket Mac Pro has a heat spreader on the processor. A retail i7 980X should fit physically.

I can't find any info on the web and Apple sites do not seem very tech savvy and will likely just tell me to buy a new Mac to get the Gulftown chip (right)..

There's a new BIOS update out for the Mac Pro 2010 that can be downloaded on the Apple site. Does it work on the Mac Pro 2009?

Anybody tried this in real life (we can all assume, so let's skip that part please) and what was your experience/result?

Thanks
