BF4 making you wanna upgrade?A i7 3770k would be the obvious best upgrade but if ht is that important.I know i am considering one myself as its drop in.

I would go i7 4930k if you need an upgrade, but that takes a new mobo. Not a bad system.

Yeah you can gain a a little from going to an i7, but without a platform upgrade you're not going very far.

The next step up is really a hex core.

Yes. i7 3770k looks pretty good.

I know i am waiting for the game to hit retail before i even do a swap, there is a solid 20% fps bump both in average and minimal going from a 2500k to a i7 2600k according to the few charts floating around the forums for beta using a Titan at 1680x1050.

All that could change when the game retails and has a patch or two or it could be worst and a i7 or fx8350 could be the only chips allowing max fps out of mid range and high end single and dual gpu configurations.

Best just to wait, i know i am.

But really, at least go core I 4th gen. You need at least 8 threads for max fps in multiplayer, and a hex core really is the next step.

Why bother upgrading your still powerful i5 2500K? I have mine at 4.533Ghz and there isn't a GPU (even upcoming) that this CPU will bottleneck.

But it is a i5 no HT ,,,,, it all depends what app hes gonna using. A game it will handle like you said yourself.

On your desktop normal things surfing, listening music whatever you do its blazing fast especially if you drop a SSD on it which you do have.

If you work with autocad, Vegas, Maya, 3d studioMax , heavy PS.. then do the upgrade... if not.. then stick with your 2500. gl
