thinking seriously about upgrading my gpu to something in the area of 6800GT / X800XL and stay agp since my current cpu is still fine for what i do and forsee doing in the next year including gaming. my weakness is my current gpu for bf2, which i would like to play at 1280x1024 with good fps and at least medium quality and 2AA.

do you think my current psu would suffice? i could take out 2-3 fans and still get the same temps, which is what i am planning on dong anyway, or do these other gpus take a lot more power than a 9800Pro?

talking about rig in sig...

thanks in advance ;)

If you want to play BF2, definitely get a 6800GT, I have an x800xl and I can play 1024x768 at all high with 80FPS, so no lag, but a 6800GT is a better performer than x800xl, you will get atleast 10-15 more frames than an x800xl. With an x800xl I go at 40-50FPS if I play at highest resolution, AA all turned up and all high, I am sure you will get 60FPS with 6800GT. As for the PSU, definitely get a better PSU, a quality 450W-500W will be more than enough and will leave room for future upgrades. But if you just want to be safe, get a quality 400W from enermax, OCZ, fortron, antec and you will be fine, make sure it is 24 pin :).

id say buy the x800xt pe refurb while you still can, it's worth the wait and its the best agp card you can get right now with the right price, 850xt pe is too much for extra fps you wont even notice from the 800xt pe.. but ati like to give suprises on price drops on the new ones (as in non refurb).

I don't know anything about that specific PSU, but Antec is generally pretty good - and a quality 350W PSU should be fine.

6800gt aint really a better performer.. fps wise each beats each other depending on what game it is.. definately go for x800xl.. which is like $250 at monarchcomputers.com cheaper than most of 6800gts by $80-130.. and ur psu should be fine..

6800GT only uses 8W more than a 9800Pro.

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/ati-vs-nv-power_10.html

and it looks like the x800xl uses ~15more, so by getting rid of 2-3 fans i should be ok? the computer is rock stable currently and can run prime95 torture test for 10+hours at that point it turn it off. the x800xt plat refurbed looks like a sweet deal.

i just need to sell my other computer to get it....which i will be posting in the fs/ft section soon :) then when i get the new card i will sell the 9800Pro, so i should come out at least equal on this deal :)

thanks
