Upgrading gaming system

I currently have a 750i chipset motherboard with a 3200+ single core AM2 processor. 2GB ddr2 7900GTOC video card with a raptor hard drive.
My upgrade budget is around $150.

I think I have narrowed it down to two coices:

1. Upgrade the motherboard and processor to an e6400 (I already have the processor)

2. Upgrade the AM2 processor to 5000+

I mostly game on this system (battlefield 2 and 2142) and was wondering which would give me the biggest performance boost.

I would be open to and grateful for any other suggestions as well. Looking to purchase something quite soon however.

Ask and ye shall receive...
:thumbsup::laugh: Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3R :thumbsup::laugh:

Don't get sucked into the cheaper versions. We're only talking about a few bucks over the long haul.
The GA-EP45-DS3R offers great fetures at a really good price point. :laugh:

Your total budget is $150, for the CPU, mobo, and video card? You might be better off just dropping in a A64 X2 and waiting about 6 or 7 months for Neha and Deneb to arrive.

150 could get you a C2D motherboard and an E2180 or E2200, but no video card. And you'd have to do a little overclocking on the E2xx0 CPU to really make it worth your while.

If all you play is battlefield 2 and 2142 then I would buy a new AM2 CPU, the 5000+ BE sounds about right, OC it to 3.2ghz and you're good to go. Sell the e6400, sitting there doing nothing it's a waste of money. Then buy a new GPU, like a HD4850.

Thanks for the help guys, that first gigabyte board looks great. I think I may sell my a64 combo to offset the price of the new GPU. the $150 budget is just for the mobo.

That ATI video card for $179 sounds pretty good too.

I'm with Marc. $66 for a 5000+ is more cost-effective than $150 for a motherboard if all you're doing is playing BF2/2142. The 6400 isn't much faster than the 5000+ unless you plan to OC.
