Upgrading From an XP+2500...

I want to upgrade my AXP [runs at 2ghz... didn't get a good Barton that oc's well] and was wondering if a mobile AXP would be a better idea than just going with a A64. I would like to get more mileage from this mobo, and don't want to upgrade if I don't have to. Would a mobile AXP be a viable upgrade, or should I just save for a whole new mobo?

well its luck of the draw, so don't be too disappointed if you get a mobile that doesn't O/C to the speeds you want 😀
but IMHO keep the XP2500 if you are satisfied with it's performance.

Might be a good idea to post what Motherboard you have as well as Ram, Power Supply etc. Post your whole system specs.
Mobiles are good, the one I have is a XP-M 2500 IQYHA 0351MPMW that runs 2500mhz @ 1.65 volts (stock for desktop bartons).

It's pretty hard and expensive to upgrade from an AthlonXP 2500+ and feel like something important has happened afterwards. It's such a decent cpu as it is.

IMO, you should go for an Athlon64. But not now. If you can't get some more milage out of a XP2500+ I have to wonder what you're doing on your machine? Have you considered your videocard? - If your problem is game performance?😕

I have the same the same processor, what I am going to do is wait until ether ddr2 and pci express is at a affordable level or 250 fsb is stock for the processor i want to purchase.

If you have an nforce2 motherboard you could overclock a mobile xp really well. 500 MHz more cpu speed would be a noticeable performance increase. Excaliber has the mobile 2600 IQYHA 0351 MPMW. It is a very consistent overclocker. Mine is running 2800 MHz.

I have an NF7-S, 1 stick of 512 MB PC3200 Kingston Hyper X, no name power supply @ 420W that came with my Chieftec. I have a Volcan 10+ on my AXP, and I'm trying new ways to get better airflow for a better overclock [like cutting the exhaust grills in the back]. Any suggestions are fine. I could buy a better HSF, but I don't no... And thanks for your suggestions so far everyone.

your PSU is made by channel well - the makers of Antec power supplies

if you really want to get the 2600+ otherwise how about adding ram instead, or if you're a gamer how bout video card...or save your money and after 6 months to a year build a new system? Don't know the difference from 2Ghz to 2.4-2.6Ghz...but personally I wouldn't upgrade...Good luck on your choice

How about going with a P4 2.4c and oc'ing? Would I get a significant increase? It wouldn't cost me TOO much to do that upgrade. If thats not worth it, I'll just hold out. Thanks.

Why not keep the Athlon XP 2500+ for another year? It's still plenty fast, and in a year, 939-pin Athlon 64s should be reasonably priced and Windows 64 should be out and patched up.
