Purchase Details:
I. Budget? Please be sure to include currency (If not USD), retailer preferences & specify whether rebates are a viable option.
I have a budget of $200-300 with some wiggle room.
II. Any particular preferences (Manufacturer[nV or AMD], Brand[XFX, Sapphire, EVGA, etc], Cooling Solutions)?
Nvidia would be preferable, and I've been happy with my EVGA card.
III. Do you plan to have any Multi-GPU solutions such as Crossfire or SLI?
Yes.
IV. Have you previously looked at a product(s) which you feel would fit your needs?
I've been debating 560 ti 2 GB SLI
V. What are your needs for this GPU? Which games(If any)do you intend to play? If you have this information at hand, what are the desired detail levels?
Would like to play top-tier games without chugging, drops in frame rates, visible slow-down at highest or near highest graphics levels.
VI. Do you plan on overclocking the card you intend to purchase?
Haven't done it before, would love to try it if a safe tutorial is available.
Additional Notes:
I've put this computer together a bit more than a year ago and I love it, its been great for gaming and a very reliable performer. I recently got the new Tomb Raider game and noticed that it was setting my default graphics to 'normal'. After adjusting to 'Ultra' so I could see how the TressFX looked, I noticed a lot of chugging and lag on cutscenes in particular.
I've fiddled with the graphics settings, and now I can play with tessellation off and a few other things changed, but this made me think it might be time for an upgrade, particularly my tax return check inbound. With that in mind, I was thinking about SLI, but I've read that this doesn't improve vram, which I've also been told is often the bottleneck in performance. With that in mind, have I been misinformed or would I be better off just getting a new, better, card?
Thanks in advance for all your help and apologies for being a bit of a newbie with all this.
