Have 400 budget, would like to stay under although would slip for a good deal.

CPU: E8400
Mobo:GIGABYTE GA-EP35-DS3P LGA 775 Intel P35

Power:CORSAIR CMPSU-620HX

Memory:GeIL Evo One 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066

My 8800GTS 320 is showing it's age(this is the old core), I'm considering upgrading to a 285 GTX (there's a few on newegg under $400 after rebate) and was looking for some input.

1 will my system bottleneck on it?
2 will my power supply be sufficient for it?

I assume it's safe to buy on both counts but taking suggestions.

Mostly playing Warhammer Online and Fallout 3, resolution on my monitor is 1680 x 1050 although I'll probably be upgrading soon and may go 1920.

I do run dual displays, so this is a factor.

Appreciate any input.

Edit: disregard sig, need to update

Best bang for your buck and twice as fast as your current card are the gtx260/4870 1gb. Both will run with your psu and won't bottleneck with your e8400.

You should try to give that e8400 a little overclock.

you don't need to spend $400. spend thirty bucks on a heatsink and overclock that 8400. 3.5 to 3.8 GHz would be so nice and you don't need to outrageously crack the vcore (perhaps not at all) to achieve that.

If 1920x1200 is in your future, the radeon 4890 is great for $200 or whatever it is. 1 GHz or ban though (sorry).

use coupon code BOGOBUY10

If you are staying at 1680 then get a 4870, unless you play games with the dual monitor config in some ultrawide resolution.

Currently I run 1490 x 900 on my secondary monitor and 1680 x 1050 on my primary. I do plant to upgrade both monitors eventually, either going dual 1680 x 1050 or 1920 x 1200 or a combination of the two.

So general consensus is that a GTX285 would be wasted on my system without upgrading or overclocking?

General consensus would be the gtx 285 is overpriced I believe.

Personally I wouldn't spend big money on a high end videocard right now.
I'd get something that would get me by for the next 6 to 8 months when the real next generation of cards comes out. They should be allmost twice as fast. Then i'd spend 3 or 4 hundred dollars on something that will last a year or two.

Right now you can get a card as fast as a 8800gtx (9800gtx) for 100 bucks (the 4770) that will do just fine at 1680x1050 with high detail
with most games.

Buy a 150$ card now.
Upgrade your monitors next, then go for the next generation videocard upgrade for 350$ and sell the 150$ card.

I think you'll be happy you did.

Edit : and yes for a high end card you need to overclock your cpu some for it to be worth it.

Yes. A HD 4870 512mb would be plenty for 1680*1050, and a HD 4870 1GB should be just fine for 1920*1200, if all you play is Warhammer online and Fallout 3. You'd be far better of spending half the money on a HD 4870, or GTX260, and spend the other half again in a year or so.

Just what I was looking for everyone. Thanks!

Also,

I haven't bought an ATI card in some time. Any specific brands to watch for?

Some have better cooling (HIS version) then others but there all about equal.
