Upgrading firmware on a new Agility 60g

Sorrows End

Junior Member
Good Morning,

I just received a new 60g Agility SSD from OCZ that I purchased last week during a newegg shellshock sale.

Would someone mind directing me on what steps to take to properly update the firmware to the newest 1.5 build?

I have 4g usb flash drive I can use.

My motherboard is an asus P6T and I know to set the hd type to IDE to do the update then after go to ACHI.

I'm just a little unsure of exactly how I'm supposed to check what firmware version is currently on the drive and also how to go about updating it safely.

Thank you kindly for reading this.

Have you read through this thread at the OCZ forums?

As for the firmware version, the updater will list the version when you run it. You can abort before updating the firmware once you see the version that you currently have installed. There are versions for both USB as well as CD booting in the thread I listed. Also, if your drive has version 1.42 firmware, the procedure is more difficult, but it's listed so all "should" go well.

Firmware v1.5 is having problems. It seems to have bricked quite a few SSDs. I would check out OCZ's forums and wait until they have a working v1.5 fix before updating, unless you don't mind sending the drive to OCZ if anything goes wrong.

That is true but they have updated the "updaters" many times over the last few days. Seems like the number of "bricked" drives have dropped significantly. Haven't seen any over the last few days (YMMV).

You might not have to do anything. I got in on the same deal and my Agility already has the 1.5 firmware (surprised me, didn't expect the firmware to be so up-to-date).

Well that would be awesome.

How would I go about checking this?

Install the drive as a secondary? And look where?

Go to Device Manager (Right click on my computer then click "Properties". Click on Device Manager (left side)). Go to the drives section and right click on the Agility drive. Go to the Details tab and then select Hardware IDs from the dropdown tab. The firmware revision will be listed there.

ooo, didn't know you can do that. I was already on my way to flashing when I saw the firmware version listed.

be glad you got something that came with above 1.3 btw, I updated a pair for a buddy from ike build 9xx and it was a total PITA.

Does the P6T have nvidia or intel sata stuff?

if its nvidia, you are SOL and will need to use a persons intel based chipset

its really sad how much of a circus it is to use those. but it IS getting alot better.

also be careful on the OCZ forums. full of jerkoffs that tell you to RTFM if you ask a question, even though the FAQ's are vague and crappy
