Do any resellers offer an upgrade service? My parents have a 5-6 year old DirecTV dish and 2 boxes, and there is something wrong with the whole setup... On each box, the picture freezes for 1-2 seconds every 2-3 minutes, sometimes even more frequently, upwards of 1-2 seconds every 30 seconds... Obviously there is something wrong, happens on both boxes...Signal shows locked on 100%, nothing is in the way of the dish.

Since my parents now have an HDTV, they were thinking of upgrading to the HD dish, 1 HD box, and 1 regular box for the SDTV.

Where can they do this the cheapest? DirecTV not only wanted to charge them for the boxes, dish, etc, but they also wanted to charge them $100 to come out.

Any ideas?

I got the HD box and new 5 LNB dish to replace my old dual LNB dish last February for $19.00. Just call them and when they quote the ridiculous list price tell them no thanks you'll wait and make a decision after checking with your cable company and Dish to see what they are offering. That should get you to the retention folks who make all the deals like the one I got.

Have your parents consider very carefully if they want to extend their service by at least 24 months. Any time you do anything the clock starts over. Recently, I unknowingly extended my service by 24 months just by grabbing an H20 from BB. I had been an HDTV customer for nearly 3 years and I bought a 32" LCD for the bedroom and the H20 was replacing an already in service standard def receiver.

They are tricky so watch out. Regardless, I am satisfied with my Comcast switch...
