I've been looking at the 3770K and it's pretty affordable from Micro Center. However, I just came across the Intel E3 1230V2 that is pretty close to the 3770K without the onboard GPU. I don't think I need the onboard GPU as I already have a GTX 560Ti. Just want to make sure that is correct? Also, I read on some of these processors they only work with ECC ram. Will the 1230V2 work with regular ram? Specifically the G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB.

For the motherboard I'm looking at either ASUS P8Z77-V LK LGA - GIGABYTE GA-Z77-DS3H - ASRock Z77 EXTREME4 just haven't really researched them yet.

Just want to make sure I understand everything correctly. Taking any recommendations, I do a lot of video editing/processing, graphic design stuff.

If you want to overclock, go with the i7-3770K and a Z77 board. Otherwise, a Xeon and an H77 or B75 board is good enough.

The Xeon is basically just an i7 that happens to be able to handle ECC RAM (if the motherboard is also compatible). It can handle normal RAM fine.

Haswell will be out in June- might be worth waiting for the 4770k.

No reason to get the Xeon when it's the same price as the 3770K if you are getting it from Microcenter.

3770K = faster stock speed and overclockable.
